Reduction to Body is a self-portrait series that explores the loss of identity through the objectification of women, focusing solely on female legs in common domestic spaces. By omitting the rest of the body, the intention is to evoke a sense of brokenness and disconnection, illustrating how women are often reduced to their physical parts through a narrow, erotic lens. This contrast between the display of perfectly shaped yet fragmented body parts highlights the irony of losing the pure, innate beauty of identity.
The series invites a visual exploration of the emotional impact of being seen only for one’s body. From a young age, women are often consumed by the pressures of meeting society's unattainable beauty standards, leading to long-lasting effects on their self-worth, self-esteem, and sense of identity. This constant striving for external validation can cause profound mental and emotional strain, affecting overall well-being and making even simple acts of self-care feel like insurmountable challenges. Despite presenting a controlled, alluring outer appearance, as seen in the illustration of strong, alluring legs, this objectification raises critical questions about the health of the whole being, urging a deeper reflection on the effects of objectification on physical and emotional health.
