Becoming explores the way children absorb and imitate adult behaviours, reflecting both innocence and the quiet formation of self. Through the lens of a young girl dressing and acting as an adult, this series revisits my own childhood, where play and observation blurred the lines between imitation and identity.
The title, Becoming, speaks to the ongoing transformation of self, the way identity is shaped through external influences long before we fully understand it. As children, we unconsciously mirror the world around us, piecing together fragments of adulthood in an attempt to define who we are and who we might one day be.
Rendered in sepia tones, these images evoke the warmth and haze of memory, emphasizing the nostalgic distance between past and present. The soft, aged aesthetic reinforces the idea of looking back, of remembering fleeting moments of innocence and imagination that quietly shaped my sense of self. Through this visual language,
Becoming captures the essence of childhood as both a time of discovery and an early foundation for identity.
